Ngorongoro crater is the world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself some two or three million years ago (before it burst, the original volcano was 3 thousand meters higher than this crater– it must have been some explosion).
